What is the story behind the name "Iara?"
According to Brazilian folklore, the legend of Iara is that of a warrior living in the Amazon region, who was very envied. One day, she is thrown in the river and is saved by the fish, turns into a mermaid and becomes a protector of nature. With her incredible beauty and singing voice, she attracts men who pollute or mistreat animals to the bottom of the river. One of the most popular legends in Brazilian folklore, she is known for her beauty and femininity, as well as her resilience. She was such a great warrior that she was envied by the men in her family, which led to her eventual demise. Our jewelry celebrates Iara in all her facets: the woman, the warrior, the protector of nature. We use natural gemstones and freshwater pearls to represent the river and nature, and precious metals that represent her resilience and her warrior abilities.
What materials are used in Iara's jewelry?
Crystals and natural gemstones, as well as pearls. The metals primarily used are sterling silver and gold-filled metals. For custom orders, we may use 14k gold as well. We use high-quality materials so that our pieces can last for a very long time and maintain their shine!
Are your materials hypoallergenic, nickel-free, lead-free?
Yes. We do not use metals that contain any nickel or lead, and everything is strictly hypoallergenic.
Do you do custom orders?
Yes. If you would like something specific or for a special occasion that you don't see on our site, we can work together to create something that will make your heart dance! Email me at info@iara.jewelry and we can talk about it.
What is your return policy?
Please read our Refund Policy page for detailed information on this. Long story short, we accept returns up to 14 calendar days from the date you receive your item, and only if the item is damaged or incorrect. For hygienic reasons, we unfortunately do not accept returns of earrings.
When will my item ship?
Most items are made to order, so please allow 1-2 business days for me to make your piece specially for you. Once the item has been shipped, I will email you with the confirmation and tracking number.
Can I order from outside the United States?
Not yet, but we would like to offer that option soon! Please email me to let me know which country you live in, and I'll be happy to look into how to ship items to you internationally.
How can I clean and care for my jewelry?
Sterling silver will inevitably tarnish, unfortunately. But the good news is that there are ways to remove the tarnish and slow down the process. Store it in an airtight container when you’re not using it, so it is not exposed to any humidity. Also avoid getting any perfumes, lotions or cosmetics on the piece, as that also speeds up the tarnishing process. Since the pieces at Iara are handmade and therefore delicate, we recommend using a polishing cloth, and washing with warm water and mild soap to keep them clean.
